JK Rowling has mounds of notes about Harry's world just... lying around. She knows every bit of information
anybody can know about Harry Potter - being the author, she should. And just what does
she intend to do with them? Why, compile them into an encyclopedia, of course!
She has stated on several occasions that she will, in fact, be creating an encyclopedia. It's
not just the myth it used to be!
Interesting Info
Release date: Unknown, JKR estimates five or so years from 2007.
Page count: Unknown, but probably long
Price: Not Availible. All proceeds go to charity.
We've known about this... How long?
Since 2000. During an online web chat, JKR said that any book after the 7th would be an
encyclopedia, for charity.
A Peek Inside
This book is intended to have any detail there is to know about magical creatures, spells, places,
and even a biography on all of the characters. She will not omit any information clearly
described in the books, and will also add a lot of information not already revealed.
Bloomsbury and Scholastic have made their own lexicons to be available to JKR as she writes.
Lawsuits
HP-Lexicon.org intended to publish their own encyclopedia on
the Potter universe, at least until JKR/WB decided to stop them. The book, which was supposed
to be published in November 2007, was halted publication and later, after the judge decided
in favour of JK Rowling, was stopped indefinitely. Besides, I'd rather have a Harry Potter
encyclopedia with more information revealed in the books than one with information I've
already read.
